I don’t know the name of this person. Well…that’s not entirely true.
This man goes by the name of “Primo”, but that’s just the title people address him by and in regard to his true name, even I don’t have knowledge of it.
He calls me “Decimo”, but that’s not my real name and I’m sure he knows that.
“Decimo, just what has kept you thinking about for a while now?”
“Decimo, just what has kept you thinking about for a while now?”
Upon hearing a gentle voice and a feeling of warmth on my forehead, I suddenly broke from my reverie to find myself staring into a pair of orange irises.
“Primo…”
“Yes? Is something bothering you? If you want, would you like to share it with me?
The way he smiles tenderly makes me think of him like a big brother or even a father (although I do have a real one). Besides that, there is also the matter of a difference that spans nine generations between us, so maybe that’s why there is also this feeling of awkwardness.
“Decimo?”
Surely he must have been curious to know the reason for why I kept being so silent and thus, he tried calling out to me. There’s no way I could have said that he was the one who was on my mind, so I lowered my head slightly in order to avert from his gaze.
“…Tsunayoshi.”
At that moment I raised my head instinctively, as simple as that. For a moment I regretted having done so, believing that maybe it was just my imagination and I’ve misheard it, only because I really wished to hear that.
That thought had been swept away when I saw that he was looking at me, his lips being formed into a smile.
“You thought that I didn’t know that?” he said with a prideful tone.
He knows my name. He called me by my name.
I was happy to find out that it wasn’t a product of my imagination what I heard just now but, at the same time I couldn’t help but also feel slightly embarrassed.
Being caught off guard like this made flustered and as he was watching me in this state, he let out a soft chuckle.
“Maybe it’s not such a bad thing to call you by your name if it’s to catch your attention…”
“Ahh…”
Now that he brought this up, I should take my chances now and ask.
“Primo…
What is your “name” ?
